What does Syntheia do?

We provide software that closes the gap between lawyers and the information lawyers need. Our software (a) turns documents into data, and (b) helps lawyers tap into legal information.

We offer a number of applications that address specific use-cases and workflows for lawyers. For example, one of our applications is a Word Add-In which offers recommendations from your firm’s past work to help lawyers who are reviewing, revising, or drafting legal documents.

How can I access your software?

You can access our software through your normal web browser or through a Microsoft Office Add-In.

How does your software work?

Each of our applications works a little differently and relies on different underlying technologies. From a user experience perspective, we have designed our software to be user-friendly and to fit seamlessly into lawyers’ workflows. Beneath the surface, we use a number of machine learning techniques, including large language models to interpret the meaning of legal text and classification models to extract legal text.

Are you using GPT or other generative AI?

We make use of language models for search and analysis of text, but using GPT and other generative models is optional. Some applications in our platform make use of generative AI where it is appropriate for the use case and where it delivers a benefit to our end users.

Do I have to train your software before using it?

Depending on your use case, our software works without the need for you to conduct any pre-training. You can start using our software immediately after installation.

Additionally, new users can pick up and use the software almost immediately. Typically, we need less than 5 minutes to teach any new user how to use our software.

For some of our applications, you may wish to provide custom training to our software. In such cases, our software can learn to identify legal concepts from as few as three to five examples.

As you use our software in your ordinary course of work, it will continue to learn from your activities and improve over time.

Does your software work with any document?

Our software works with any legal documents, for any subject matter and for most commonly-used formats, such as docx and pdf.

If your file is secured, such as through password protection, our software may not be able to read the file.

We already have a clause bank. Can we import this into Syntheia?

Yes, you can import your clauses into Syntheia. If you wish to bulk import, we can help you with this process. Once imported, your existing clause bank can continue to be an integral part of the database of knowledge for your lawyers to access and use.

Is your software hosted in the cloud or on-prem?

Our software is privately deployed to infrastructure your firm or your organization controls.

We can deploy our software in a cloud environment that is controlled by you (like Azure, AWS or GCP) or we can deploy our software to your on-premise infrastructure.

Where is my data stored?

Your data is stored at a location specified by your firm’s or your organization’s IT team. Since our software is privately deployed, you control where your data is stored and who has access to your data.

Are my documents shared with other law firms or organizations?

No, your documents are not shared with any third parties. You control where you store your data and who has access to your data. Our team does not hold or have access to your documents and data.

What security measures do you have in place?

We deploy our software privately with your firm or your organization, and so your data is protected by your existing security framework.

Can I connect your software to my document management system, like iManage and NetDocuments?

Yes, our system can integrate with and ingest documents from your existing document management system. We will work with your IT team to understand your software stack and help you connect our software to your document management system through one of their available APIs.

Can I make changes to your software?

No, you cannot directly access our codebase or modify our software.

If it is agreed under your license with us, we will grant you access to our APIs, which will allow your organization to leverage our software modules and extend on the capabilities of our software. We already work with a number of partners who leverage our text processing and search modules.

We also welcome your feedback so we can adapt our software to meet your needs.

Can I try your software before I buy?

Yes, we offer trials and pilots of our software. Please contact us, and we will be happy to discuss a trial or a pilot that suits your needs.
